World Book Day is a global celebration of the power of books, reading, and literacy in shaping young minds. Yet in Papua New Guinea, it remains a sobering reality that most schools do not have functioning libraries or sufficient library books for students to access in support of their studies. For countless children, the ability to read beyond classroom textbooks is limited by a lack of resources.

Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) marked its nationwide Digital Learning Day Observation today, showcasing its innovative Digital Learning (DL) Program across all its Library Learning Centres (LLCs) in Papua New Guinea.

Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) was honoured to receive a grant of more than K50,000 from the Australian Government, through their Direct Aid Program (DAP). The announcement was made by the Australian Consulate-General in Lae, Mr Brenton Kanowski, to support essential infrastructure upgrades and learning enhancements at the St Steven Library Learning Centre (LLC) and St Steven Elementary School.

Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) proudly celebrated the graduation of 86 young learners at the Lae Unitech Library Learning Centre (LLC), generously sponsored by Bank South Pacific (BSP). The ceremony was especially significant as it included the launch of BbP’s first Financial Literacy Guide, to empower school-aged children with essential financial skills, knowledge of Papua New Guinea’s Kina and Toea, and the importance of saving.

Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) proudly celebrated the first-ever Graduation Ceremony of its Lae St Steven Library Learning Centre (LLC), marking a milestone in early learning for the children and families of the Miles community. The centre, established earlier this year, operates through a partnership with the Chow Foundation, Lae Biscuit Company, St Steven Catholic Parish, and St Steven Elementary School, who provide ongoing support and host BbP programs on their premises.

Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) proudly celebrated the graduation of 98 students today at its University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) Library Learning Centre (LLC), marking another milestone in providing strong educational foundations for Papua New Guinea’s future leaders.

Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) is delighted to announce the launch of a brand-new “Soft Playground” at the Port Moresby General Hospital Paediatric Ward 3C. The specially designed space features soft, plush toys and gentle play items aimed at supporting children’s fine motor and gross motor skills, learning, comfort, and joy during recovery.

Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) successfully launched its first-ever Playground Project this morning at the 9 Mile Library Learning Centre (LLC). This milestone project was initiated in response to the recent requirement by the National Department of Education (NDOE) for all Early Childhood Education (ECE) providers to provide a designated play area for children.

Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) is pleased to announce the extension of its Breakfast Program, following a successful 3-month pilot last year and another 6-month earlier this year at one of the organisations’ Library Learning Centres where 257 students participated. The pilot, which was subject to extensive monitoring and evaluation showed very positive results in supporting student focus and learning in the classroom.

Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) closed its Literacy Week celebrations today with a vibrant tribute to Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary. Across all Library Learning Centres (LLCs), students, teachers, and families joined together to mark this historic occasion with pride and unity.

Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) wishes to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the Operation Planti Balus team for their generous support in approving our application for assistance with cargo freighting to our five Library Learning Centres (LLCs) in Lae, Goroka, and Manus. These resources are intended for use in Term 4 by our teams in these locations.
