Buk bilong Pikinini Concludes Literacy Week with PNG’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations
Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) closed its Literacy Week celebrations today with a vibrant tribute to Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary. Across all Library Learning Centres (LLCs), students, teachers, and families joined together to mark this historic occasion with pride and unity.
At BbP’s 6 Mile LLC, the celebrations were in full swing as children, parents, and teachers dressed in traditional bilas and showcased singsing from the regions of Papua New Guinea. The performances highlighted the richness of PNG’s cultural heritage and the importance of instilling pride in identity and tradition among the next generation.
For 18 years, BbP has worked to provide access to quality early childhood education and literacy programs for disadvantaged children and families across the country. BbP looks forward to serving the nation through its programs and services, helping to shape PNG’s future for the next 50 years and beyond.
“Buk bilong Pikinini is proud to stand with Papua New Guinea as we celebrate 50 years of nationhood,” said Leanne Resson, Executive Officer for Buk bilong Pikinini. “We are honoured to have been part of this journey for nearly two decades, and we look forward to continuing to empower the children of PNG with the skills and confidence they need to build our nation’s future.”
Founder of Buk bilong Pikinini, Anne-Sophie Hermann said: “As we mark this historic occasion and see the excitement and joy in the children’s eyes as they proudly display their culture, we are thankful to all our donor partners and supporters who have supported us for more than 18 years. Investing in the children’s early childhood education is investing in both their and the country’s future. We wish for a confident, educated and healthy nation as we look to the next 50 years of Papua New Guinea.”
Today also marked the final day of Term 3 for all BbP Library Learning Centres. BbP wishes all students and teachers a safe and happy holiday break and looks forward to welcoming them back for Term 4.
BbP extends heartfelt congratulations to the people of Papua New Guinea on this Golden Jubilee.
Happy 50th Anniversary PNG!
