Buk bilong Pikinini and Blue Water Shipping to Support Seven Primary Schools in PNG with School Library Kits
Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) is proud to formally announce support from global logistics provider Blue Water Shipping, marked by a generous donation of K32,664.96 to support the delivery of School Library Kits to seven (7) primary schools across Papua New Guinea.
Mr Nicholas Walsh, General Manager for Blue Water Shipping in Papua New Guinea visited Buk bilong Pikinini’s Baruni Library Learning Centre, in Baruni village, to formally mark the announcement of this donation witnessed by teachers and students. He also spoke to the children about what Blue Water Shipping does and also joined them in doing some activities on knot tying, paper boats making and colouring in.
Founded in 1972 in Denmark, Blue Water Shipping is an international logistics and freight forwarding company specializing in customized, end-to-end transport solutions. Through its corporate social responsibility initiatives, Blue Water Shipping continues to demonstrate commitment not only to infrastructure and trade, but also to community development.
Anne-Sophie Hermann, Founder and Vice Chair of Buk bilong Pikinini, said she was especially delighted to see a Danish-founded company supporting literacy initiatives in Papua New Guinea.
“As someone originally from Denmark, it is incredibly meaningful to witness a Danish company like Blue Water Shipping extend its support to children here in Papua New Guinea. This partnership reflects the power of shared values across borders, a commitment to education, opportunity, and community development. We are truly grateful for their generosity and belief in the work we do at Buk bilong Pikinini.”
The funds donated will enable Buk bilong Pikinini to distribute its School Library Kits to seven primary schools in need. Each kit contains high-quality, curriculum-aligned library books designed to improve literacy outcomes and encourage a culture of reading among students.
Buk bilong Pikinini is a local non-government organisation specializing in Early Childhood Education and literacy development. In addition to operating Library Learning Centres, BbP supports community schools in re-establishing functional library spaces through its School Library Re-Establishment program, made possible by committed partners and donors such a Blue Water Shipping.
It is a sad reality that some schools have limited to non-existent library facilities, leaving students without the resources needed to enhance their educational learning. This donation will directly address that gap and support seven schools with quality reading materials.
The lack of accessible library resources continues to affect literacy development nationwide. And by equipping schools with school library kits, Buk bilong Pikinini aims to strengthen reading proficiency, improve academic engagement, and create sustainable learning environments for children.
Schools interested in being included on Buk bilong Pikinini’s support wish list are encouraged to email to provide the following information: school level (elementary, primary, secondary, tertiary institution, or community program libraries), name and location of the school, number of classes, teacher-to-student ratio, and the closest airport to the school. Please note that school location and accessibility will be taken into consideration, as logistics and transport requirements directly influence donation planning and distribution.
This donation a shared commitment to improving educational outcomes and expanding access to quality learning resources for children across Papua New Guinea.
