City Pharmacy Limited Foundation Presents K110,039.16 to Buk bilong Pikinini in Support of Tatana Library Learning Centre

City Pharmacy Limited Foundation (CPL Foundation) has reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to early childhood education through a cheque presentation of K110,039.16 to Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) in support of BbP’s Tatana Library Learning Centre (LLC) for the 2026 academic year.

The cheque presentation took place on Wednesday, 18th February 2026, at BbP’s Tatana Library Learning Centre. The cheque was presented by Deborah Alois, Manager for CPL Foundation, to Leanne Resson, Executive Officer for Buk bilong Pikinini. The event was witnessed by Tatana LLC students, teachers, parents, and BbP Programs Team Lead, Martin Tawaheyana and other BbP and CPL staff present, marking a meaningful moment for the entire learning community.

Ms Alois in her remarks mentioned, “The support from CPL Foundation is for the benefit of the children and the Tatana community and the impact of this support can be seen in later years as I myself had seen in two former Tatana Library students I had met last year who are now thriving in their secondary school years and are optimistic about their future careers.”

The partnership between CPL Foundation and Buk bilong Pikinini dates back to 2014 under the leadership of CPL Foundation Chairman, Sir Mahesh Patel, whose vision for corporate social responsibility continues to create tangible impact in communities across Papua New Guinea.

Now in its twelfth year of operation, the Tatana Library Learning Centre has provided foundational literacy and structured learning opportunities to almost 700 children since its establishment. The centre continues to serve as a vital educational hub for Tatana Village.

For the 2026 academic year, enrolment figures reflect continued growth and demand:

  • 83 children enrolled in morning structured early learning classes

  • 57 children participating in the after-school program

  • 2 students receiving support with special learning needs

The funding from CPL Foundation will directly support teacher salaries, educational resources, learning materials, and operational costs necessary to deliver quality early childhood education and literacy development programs. CPL Foundation’s ongoing support reflects its broader corporate social responsibility focus on education, health, and community development throughout Papua New Guinea.

Speaking on the occasion, BbP’s Programs Team Lead, Mr Martin Tawaheyana, expressed sincere appreciation for CPL Foundation’s unwavering support over the past decade.

Mr Tawaheyana, expressed, “CPL Foundations support over the years has not been wasted. Last year alone saw Tatana Library Learning Centre progressive test results at the end of the year earn them a spot in the top five library centres for BbP’s libraries and with this year’s enrolment numbers we look forward to having another top performing year in this library learning centre.

Buk bilong Pikinini remains committed to strengthening literacy and improving educational outcomes for children in underserved communities through its network of Library Learning Centres nationwide.
