Buk bilong Pikinini to Host Book Sale at Theodist in Support of Children’s Education
Port Moresby, 29 October 2025 — Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) is inviting book lovers of all ages to its upcoming Book Sale on Saturday, 1 November 2025, from 9:00am to 12:00pm at Theodist Business Centres in Lae and Port Moresby.
The sale will feature a wide range of books across all categories, with proceeds supporting BbP’s literacy and early learning programs for children across Papua New Guinea.
Buk bilong Pikinini operates the country’s largest network of Library Learning Centres, each housing over 3,000 books. Through these centres, BbP delivers a free Early Childhood Education program that prepares children for school and focuses on literacy, numeracy, inclusive education, nutrition education, and digital learning. As part of its digital learning initiatives, BbP offers a fun learning app and provides its own published books as flipbooks and audiobooks—all designed to foster a lifelong love of reading and learning.
To date, BbP has published more than 40 culturally relevant children’s books, covering a diverse range of topics including professions, animals, plants, activity books, nutrition education, and inclusive education. These books help ensure Papua New Guinean children can see their own lives, culture, and environment reflected in what they read. BbP is also proud to see that a book borrowing and reading culture is evident among its students, showing that a love for reading can be cultivated and encouraged from a young age — and it is our collective responsibility to continue nurturing this across Papua New Guinea.
The organisation’s achievements are made possible through generous donations from publishing houses, schools, individuals in Australia, and corporate partners such as Seafast and Express Freight Management, which have helped BbP bring more than three million high-quality books to the country.
In addition to its Library Learning Centres, BbP has also restored hundreds of community school libraries through its School Library Kits initiative, helping rebuild a strong reading culture nationwide.
“Reading is the foundation of all learning,” said Anne-Sophie Hermann, Founder and Vice Chair of Buk bilong Pikinini. “When children see their parents read and have access to quality books, they are inspired to become lifelong learners. Every book sale helps us reach more children across the country.”
All proceeds from the Book Sale will go directly towards supporting BbP’s education and literacy programs, giving even more children access to books and quality early learning opportunities.
The next Book Sale will be held at the Rangeview Plaza Atrium on Saturday, 29 November 2025 — offering another opportunity for the public to support children’s education while finding great books.
