PNG Air Supports Buk Bilong Pikinini in Delivering School Library Kits and Learning Resources to Remote Communities
Buk Bilong Pikinini (BbP) continues its commitment to improving access to books and educational resources for children across Papua New Guinea. Through its ongoing School Library Kit (SLK) donation initiative delivers quality books and learning resources to schools and communities, supporting children to build reading skills, develop a love of reading, and create engaging learning environments where books are readily accessible.
This important work has been strengthened through the generous support of PNG Air, whose partnership has enabled Buk Bilong Pikinini to transport books, educational materials to reach children in some of Papua New Guinea's most isolated communities and also assisting with BbP staff travel, enabling BbP teams to visit and provide support to its Library Learning Centers.
Buk Bilong Pikinini’s School Library Kits (SLKs) provide schools with collections of age-appropriate books, helping establish and strengthen libraries and schools. Available in a range of categories, including Early Childhood, Primary Schools, Secondary schools and Community Library collections, the kits help library replenishment, learning resources and provide children with greater access to reading learning opportunities.
Most recently, with the support of PNG Air and other valued logistics partners, book donations were successfully delivered to schools in Sandaun Province and East New Britain Province, bringing new learning opportunities to thousands of children.
In Sandaun Province, a total of 1,000 books were donated to Wutung Primary School and Don Bosco Secondary School through the generous support of Blue Water Shipping in partnership with Buk Bilong Pikinini. These books will provide students and teachers with valuable resources to support literacy development, classroom learning, and independent reading.
In East New Britain Province, Rugen Harbour Primary School and Urai Primary School in the Baining District received 2,000 books through the support of Fincorp. The donation will benefit hundreds of children from both schools and surrounding communities, providing access to books that encourage learning, imagination, and educational growth.
These donations reflect the power of collaboration between corporate partners, transport providers, and community organizations working together to improve educational outcomes for children throughout Papua New Guinea.
Anne-Sophie Herman Founder of Buk Bilong Pikinini, said:
“Access to books should never be determined by geography. Through the support of PNG Air and our generous partners, we are able to reach remote schools and communities that would otherwise have limited access to educational resources.
We are delighted to see these books reaching children who are eager to learn, read, and dream about their futures. Every donation helps create brighter educational opportunities and encourages a lifelong love of reading.”
Representative from Rugen Harbour and Urai Community Mr. Levi Orong said:
“We are deeply grateful to Buk Bilong Pikinini, Fincorp, PNG Air, and all partners involved in making this donation possible. This is the first time our remote schools have received such a significant donation of books, and the impact will be felt for many years to come.
Rugen Harbour Primary School recently completed the construction of its library, but we did not know where the books would come from. This donation has answered that need and provided hope for our students and teachers. Without government support, this contribution is truly the first of its kind for our schools and communities.
These books will be treasured by our children and will help create opportunities through education and literacy. On behalf of the students, teachers, parents, and communities of Rugen Harbour and Urai Primary Schools, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Buk Bilong Pikinini, PNG Air, Fincorp, and all supporters who have made this possible.”
Buk Bilong Pikinini extends its sincere appreciation to PNG Air for its unwavering support in connecting communities through air travel and helping deliver educational resources to some of Papua New Guinea’s most remote locations. Their contribution goes beyond transportation; it is an investment in children’s futures and in the continued growth of literacy and education across the country.
The organization also acknowledges the support of Express Freight Management and Sea Fast for assisting with the transportation of books from Australia to Papua New Guinea, as well as Blue Water Shipping, Fincorp, and other organizations for their ongoing contributions towards book donations and literacy development programs.
Buk Bilong Pikinini is calling on corporate organizations across Papua New Guinea to partner in supporting schools that urgently need access to books and learning materials. Together, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to read, learn, and thrive.
