Children from Buk bilong Pikinini explore the world of banking as part of their Book Week excursion
As part of Book Week 2025, children from Buk bilong Pikinini’s Tatana Library Learning Centre went on an exciting excursion to BSP’s Waigani Head Office, where they learned firsthand financial literacy and the importance of saving from an early age.
The visit gave the children the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, seeing how money is managed, how transactions are processed, and how customers are served, bringing classroom lessons to life in a real banking environment.
The children were warmly welcomed by Samuel Okti, Branch Manager of BSP Waigani Banking Centre. He expressed how delighted he was to host them. With smiles and excitement, the children were divided into groups and taken through different stations within the bank to see what real bankers do from serving customers and processing transactions to understanding how money is managed behind the scenes.
The BSP team made sure every moment was both fun and educational, giving the children a real glimpse into the world of finance. BSP Head of Community Development & Sponsorship, Tina Pomat guided the children throughout the excursion, ensuring the visit was truly memorable.
“At BSP, we’re always happy to welcome young aspiring bankers. It’s a joy to see their curiosity come alive as they explore the world of finance. Creating fun, educational experiences like this is part of our commitment to nurturing future leaders,” said Mrs. Pomat.
“We are so happy to have celebrated Book Week with BSP - a Platinum partner of Buk bilong Pikinini. Providing children with the opportunity to go on an excursion to see the inner workings of a bank will go a long way to help them understand the career paths they can have thanks to their education. said Anne-Sophie Hermann, Founder and Vice Chair of Buk bilong Pikinini. “Our partnership with BSP not only covers the sponsorship of 3 Library Learning Centres but also includes support for our Financial Literacy activities for the children. Gaining a greater insight into the importance of savings and money management is a valuable life skill for the children. We have also published a “When I Grow Up I want to be a Banker” with BSP as part of our mini professional’s series of readers. Thank you BSP!"
Buk bilong Pikinini extends its heartfelt thank you to Bank South Pacific for supporting our mission to inspire children to dream big through literacy, career exploration, and life skills such as financial literacy.
