Buk bilong Pikinini Students Explore the World of Graphic Design at Theodist Print Shop

As part of Buk bilong Pikinini’s (BbP) Book Week celebrations under the theme "My Future Career – When I grow up I want to be a…", students from BbP’s Vabukori Library Learning Centre visited the Theodist Print Shop to discover the exciting world of graphic design.

The excursion was inspired by BbP’s newly launched reader When I Grow Up I Want to be a Graphic Designer, which features Theodist and highlights the career pathway in the design and print industry. Theodist, a proud sponsor of BbP for the past ten years, welcomed the students with an interactive and hands-on learning experience.

During the visit, students met Graphic Designer role model Polen Ikunti and Print Shop Manager Joven Havana, who guided them through the printing process. The highlight of the day was watching their pre-designed brochures come to life on the shop’s large-scale printing machines — an experience that sparked excitement and curiosity among the young learners.

Speaking on behalf of Theodist, National Sales and Marketing Manager, Kevin Anderson said “Theodist is proud to support Buk bilong Pikinini, not only by providing essential stationery but also by reselling BbP’s published books to promote literacy across PNG. We are delighted to open our doors to these young students and inspire them to see the creative possibilities in graphic design.”

BbP’s Founder and Vice Chair, Anne-Sophie Hermann, expressed her appreciation, “Theodist is a Diamond sponsor of BbP and their support over the past decade has been invaluable to our mission. We are thrilled to celebrate Book Week, with 30 When I Grow Up reader titles for this year, alongside them and give our students the opportunity to see graphic design in action. This kind of real-world exposure helps children dream big about their future careers.”

Theodist’s decade-long partnership with BbP has contributed significantly to literacy development in Papua New Guinea, and this year’s Book Week collaboration underscores the importance of community and corporate partnerships in inspiring the next generation. BbP would also like to thank Theodist General Manager, Mr Kevin Pini, for taking time out to say hi to the students and team during the excursion as much appreciate the new and improved books shelves display with an amazing section for BbP’s published books.
