Anne-Sophie Hermann, Founder, Chairman of the Buk bilong Pikinini Board and Canberra Office Manager

Anne-Sophie has a MA from Copenhagen Business School, a BA in Political Science from Sciences Po in Paris, France and a BA in International Relations from the Australian National University. Before arriving in Papua New Guinea she worked at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra teaching French while studying at the ANU.

The idea to establish libraries in PNG was almost immediate upon her arrival to PNG in 2006, Anne-Sophie went on to lay the foundation for BbP together with Anna Mukerjee in 2007 and opened the first Buk bilong Pikinini library in 2008. Anne-Sophie opened five libraries before returning to Australia in December 2009.
Anne-Sophie has managed the Canberra Office since 2010 -  undertaking the majority of the organisation's fundraising, has daily contact with the Head Office as an advisor, is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and remains involved in all aspects of the organisation. Anne-Sophie travels to PNG for official library openings and devotes time to lobby for Buk bilong Pikinini with PNG and Australia Ministers and Government officials.
"Books have always been an important part of my life. Growing up in Denmark, I made frequent visits to the public library and was always trying to load too many books onto my bicycle to take home. I have tried to instil the same love of books in my daughter since she was three months old. It was thanks to her love of books and her friendship with Frida, daughter of the gardener at the High Commissioner's residence, which led to the creation of Buk bilong Pikinini.
I am truly grateful to all those wonderful people who have been and are part of the Buk bilong Pikinini journey."
Buk bilong Pikinini has been generously provided with an office by His Excellency Charles Lepani, at the PNG High Commission in Canberra.
